AAPL Watch

Apple Inc. (AAPL) broke above its trading range today in a strong push following a breakout beyond the 20-day price channel on Friday.

The peak price so far today is $411.50, short of the $416.65 range breakout level required under my trading rules.

The present sideways trend began July 26. The price has ranged from $353.02 to $404.50. The offset used in calculating a breakout is $12.15, slightly greater than the 10-day average true range of $9.37.

The average directional index is quite weak, at 15.

AAPL announces earnings after the close on Oct. 17. That fact, plus heated speculation over the iPhone 5, will contribute to higher volatility.
