5/28 Morningline

Welcome to Weird Week, that time of strangeness that starts the day before a three-day holiday weekend and continues through the Monday following the holiday week.

During this period, all experienced traders take off, and the interns are left in charge, building fortresses out of used pizza boxes in the corridors of their Wall Street towers and holding battles with golf- and spit-balls.

It is a time when volume is low, and prices often move contrary to expectation. For the technician, it is a week of charts scribed by idiots, signifying nothing.

The rundown:

Blue-chip stocks, trading narrowly down at the upper end of Thursday's range.

Treasury long-term bonds, high-yield corporates bonds: up by a bit. Emerging markets, gold, oil: Down by a bit.

U.S. dollar slightly up against both the euro and the yen, but the margin is so narrow as to not matter one whit.
