1/6 Watchlist

Treasury long bonds (TLT) are declining in price, contrary to yesterday's pps bull signal. Otherwise, all indicators are in line with the signals noted in the Morningline.
The dollar is rising against the yen (USD/JPY), contrary to yesterday's pps bear signal, but remains nearly contained within the prior day's range. The stochastic is in bear mode, and the macd is heading that way. The 20-day moving average is rising and is above its 50-day counterpart.

The euro-dollar pair (EUR/USD) is in the ninth day of a sideways move.

My holding are marking time, except for MRVL, which shows a small rise. My positions is a bull put spread (p20/-p22.5).

Also interesting among the high-volume . . .

. . . exchange-traded funds:
  • EEM continues to rise on the third day after an upward gap as part of an apparent break out of a months-long sideways trend. All signals are in bull mode.
  • UNG shows a pps bull signal on a rise to resistance, the fourth whipsaw in eight days. The trend is downish to sideways, only the ma20 is uptrending, the macd is above the zero line but trending lower, and the stochastic below the 80 line but trending upward. Go figure.
  • EWJ is rising the third day after a pps bull signal in what may be a trend breakout. The macd and stochastic show bull signals.
  • XLE, the energy etf, is also in the third day of a price rise and is nearing resisance set in October. The ma20 is pointing toward a move above the ma50. USO and OIH show a similar rise. All of these can be considered as breakouts or moves at the top of a sideways range.
 . . . company shares:
  • Telcoms in turmoil. T shows a pps bull signal on a pre-opening gap down on news. The stock is trending upward and the moving averages are in a bull configuration, but the macd and stochastic have turned to the bear side. Another telcom, VZ, also shows a similar drop, but without the pps signal. GOOG, which announced it would start making a high-end cellphone, shows pps, macd and stochastic bear signals and a decline of nearly 3%. Nice upward trend, though. My motto: Never trade after the news has broken.
  • VALE, at 32.28, is rising on the third day after a gap up and has broken through resistance. It has 6.00 to go before hitting resistance. The pps, moving averages, macd and stochastic are all aligned in bull mode. A potential trade.
In summary, not much in the way of new signals. Most issues are working through the implications of the signals given on the first trading day of the new year.
