6/29 Almanac

On Tuesday, June 29: Metro home prices, consumer confidence.

There are 18 days before the July options expire, 53 the August and 81 the September.

On the jump, market stats, econ reports, trading calendar and a good book...

Stats

Blue chip stocks (SPY) closed the latest regular session down 0.3% from the prior close. During the day SPY traversed 1.1% high to low in a net move down of 0.5%.

Friday's extremes: Open $108.03, high $108.32, low $107.14, close $107.53.

SPY traded below the DeMark pivots and closed within them. The next DeMark pivots are $106.75-$107.93.

In total, 2.7 billion shares were traded on the three major U.S. stock exchanges, down 21.4% from the prior trading day. Can anyone say, "Holiday weekend ahead?" Markets are closed next Monday for Independence Day.

Econ reports:

The home price index will be released at 9 a.m. Eastern, consumer confidence at 10 a.m.

What's interesting about the home price index is that it breaks results down for 20 metro areas. In real estate, as in politics and love, everything is local. So the HPI provides a nice counterpoint (dare I say corrective) to the national trend numbers, which mask a lot of local variation.

Trading Calendar:

By my rules, at this point in the cycle I can trade September single calls or puts, and shares.

Good trading!
