Rejects

Here are the signals that I chose not to analyze and why they didn't make the cut:

  • CA, bear, low adx (16), earnings are near (5/13), move on news that the company is cutting jobs. This signal follows a one-day bull whipsaw.
  • CBS, bull, low adx (14), earnings near (5/5)
  • CMC, bull, low adx (17), movement on takeover rumors
  • CNX, bull, marginal adx (26), earnings near (4/22)
  • CPBY, bull, low adx (13), earnings near (5/11), news of a business deal causes a huge (30%+) gap
  • CVS, bear, marginal adx (22), earnings near (5/4)
  • CX, bull, low adx (17), earnings near (4/27)
  • DD, bull, earnings near (4/27), move on analyst comment
  • FHN, bear, marginal adx (27), earnings near (4/16)
  • HBAN, bull, marginal adx (22), earnings near (4/22)
  • MEE, bear, marginal adx (25), earnings near (4/27), gapped down on news of a coal mine explosion in West Virginia
  • MPEL, bull, earnings near (5/20), move on analyst comment
  • NOK, bear, earnings near (4/22), signal is counter-trend
  • STI, bull, earnings near (4/21), move on analyst comment
  • TNK, bear, movement on news that a share offering was priced at a discount
  • USB, bull, earnings near (4/20), move on analyst comment
  • VLO, bull, marginal adx (28), earnings near (4/27)
  • WFC, bull, earnings near (4/21)
  • ZION, bull, earnings near (4/19)
Please note that these are rejected according to my rules. They might be just fine under your rules.

Stalking the Black Swan: Research and Decision Making in a World of Extreme Volatility
Market analyst Kenneth Posner creates a new framework for managing extreme risk based on lessons learned in the recent collapse of capitalist finance.

My tendencies are these:
  1. I like for earnings, at this point, no closer than a week or two past expiration of the May options, which I'm trading now
  2. I like an adx of 30 or above to minimize whipsaws
  3. I like the signal to be in the direction of the main trend
  4. I don't like to trade stocks that have moved based on published rumors or news
But hey, that's just me.
